Get Utkarsh’s help to get your dog’s license

On the occasion of World Rabies Day, September 28, 2020, Utkarsh launched ‘Uktarsh-Help Desk for Dog License’ to assist pet parents obtain the mandatory dog license from BMC. Utkarsh has collaborated with Mumbai Municipal Corporation and will initiate the process for you and ensure you get the license as earlier as possible. It is a free service from Utkarsh.

Mumbai Municipal Corporation has made dog license compulsory to keep a dog as a pet, under Section 191 (A) and 191 (B) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act 1888. The license also has to be renewed every year. People living in Mumbai for more than three months with a pet have to get the license. If a pet dog is found to be without the required license, BMC can seize the dog and take them away.

Licensing can be of numerous benefits to pet parents as well as the community. It can help control rabies as the vaccination of the dogs is compulsory to get the license. It will also help the dogs get vaccinated for other zoonotic diseases (diseases that can transfer from animals to humans), including leptospirosis, distemper, etc.

Another advantage of a dog license is that it could prevent the abandonment of animals. Authorities state that they find more than six to seven abandoned animals daily. Many heartless pet parents readily abandon dogs that are sick, old, injured or paralysed. A dog license can prevent such cruelty.
